It is a battle that we have everyday in our house. Getting Camille to take her vitamin is a daily struggle! We have tried different brands, flavors, shapes, you name it.

I don’t understand it. When we started giving her a vitamin, she loved them, she’d even ask for another one. Then, all of sudden, she decided that she didn’t like them anymore. I’ve tried bribing, yelling, ignoring. … nothing works. Doctors say don’t worry about a daily vitamin if kids get a balanced diet, well sometimes that happens and sometimes not so much. (see ”you did what?” post) Ideas? I’d love to hear them

Tracy
My solution is to purchase the liquid drop vitamins that are typically used for infants. I buy them at Rite Aid. You can adjust the dosage for her age/weight and put the drops in a drink you know she is going to finish. Works great for my little ones. Hope this helps!
My son loves fruit snacks, so I buy the gummy vitamins and when he has a pack of fruit snacks I mix one in!
I agree with Natalie. It works well in their morning juice. After my son got so big then I just gave up and he’s still a pretty healthy kid. Had perfect attendance last year in school so I guess we’re doing something right
.
My daughter is 5 and does not like the vitamins either. We tried a few different brands, but nothing worked. She is healthy and eats great so I am not worried. Her doctor said she isn’t worried about it either, as long as she is eating right. I’ll wait until she is old enough to swallow the vitamins!
In response to the previous post, I wouldn’t recommend the liquid vitamins. I know many children whose teeth have become ruined by those.
I know that every pediatrician is different but when I was concerned about my son. He said not to worry. My son isn’t the best eater but he is growing like a weed. Don’t stress yourself about it. If she is growing and her well visits show growth I’m sure she’ll be fine.
I never gave my children vitamins and the doctor never said that I needed to. Even though they don’t get a balance diet every day, by the end of the week – it all balances out. They are getting what they need with no deficiencies.
Now they are all teenagers and eat pretty much everything…My daughter being the most picky eater of the 3 (other 2 are sons who eat what is in front of them and more!!).
If I were you, I would make an effort to offer healthy choices and the occasional salami w/tator tots and in the end, Camille will be getting a healthy, balanced diet with no worries for “mom”.
Please relax and stop worrying about every vitamin, nutrient, vegetable, etc. that gets into Camille’s stomach. If she’s growing at a healthy rate, let her eat the occasional tater tot & salami dinner. Kids will rebel if they feel they are constantly being told exactly what, when, why and how to eat, and once they realize that ‘forbidden foods’ taste better than the forced ‘6 to 8 servings of vegetables a day’, you will have even bigger problems on your hands (especially when they see mom’s reaction when they don’t eat their veggies). Obsessing about food now will only cause problems later. Everything in moderation, and be a good, yet realistic, role model. (Just a heads-up… you will run into the same struggles with potty training. Relax and don’t worry about it.) Best of luck.
Since we live in the country, we have to use flouride supplements also. Since the flouride comes with a multivitamin in liquid form, I mix it in Will’s 1/2 cup of juice at bedtime since he won’t drink juice any other time of day.
It smells disgusting, but he drinks it.
I remember at that age when my parents gave me liquid vitamins first thing in the morning before breakfast. There was Tri-Vi-Sol, which I started with, and later Zymiltimic? The latter was heavy stuff, but tasted good. We’re talking early-to-mid 1950s.
