Spills and Stains

It’s my fault.  I should know better than to put anything white on a toddler.   Since, the warm weather arrived I have been doing battle with stains.  I don’t think there is a day that passes  that I am not scrubbing  some stain out of Camille’s clothes.  Last night, it was ink.  I do have a tip for that, hair spray. It seems to work pretty well.

I have a problem with ice cream, chocolate milk, grape juice and spaghetti sauce.  A seasoned mom told me , the key is getting the stain out is treating it as soon as possible.  It does seem to work.  But, sometimes, by the time I get home, well the stain has already set.   My husband tries.  But somethimes he either doesn’t notice the stain or gets water on it but doesn’t use a pre-treater.  So, once again, I am waging war on stains and spills.  If anybody has any tips, please send them my way :)

xoxo,

Tracy

  1. I work with preschoolers and when it’s lunchtime for a couple of our kids, we use long-sleeved button down shirts, kid sized. Just put over the clothes during a meal time and when done, just take off. It has prevented a lot of disasters.

  2. As a mom of a newly six year old, I’ve taken to caring Tide Pens where ever we go. I have more of them in my purse then anything else. Before my daughter, lipsticks were in the bottom of the purse. No matter how many stains or spills occur it the smile on their little faces that makes everything melt away.

  3. Tracy,

Most “dollar” stores carry a spray called “Awesome” and it’s name describes it perfectly. I always have a bottle on hand. I haven’t had a stain yet that it hasn’t removed. It’s just important that you treat the stain as soon as possible. I rinse the soiled area first and then apply the spray. It works like magic!

  4. Tracy,

I love your blog. We use Totally Toddler for everything that my boys get into. This stuff is great, it takes out everything! You can get it at Target, Walmart, or totallytoddler.com.

  5. Zout gel – I find it at Marc’s.
Also I require a bib when almost any food is involved. My daughter is so used to is that she actually asks for it! Saves a lot of frustration, and laundry!

  7. Why is it that the cutest clothes are white?! I have the same problem…by the time I can treat a stain, it’s already set in. I spray Shout on the stain, but I also put a scoop of OxyClean in every load of my kids’ laundry. I’ve faithfully used it for their clothes since they were babies, and people compliment me on how their clothes look like new – which is a pretty big feat for a full-time working mother of 2!! And since they go to school/daycare, I convinced myself that the OxyClean gets the extra germs that are hiding in their clothes!

If there’s still a stain after the wash, I’ll just rub detergent right on the stain and wash it again. Works most of the time.

  8. An Amway product called ….LOC….it works great on everything. If you need to know how to get it contact me….

  9. I keep stain stick with the bath/bed time routine stuff. So, when it comes time to take off my girls clothes and put on their PJ’s my stain stick is right there so that I can treat the stains as they appear and not just on laundry day. It’s a constant battle, I know.

  10. Hi Tracy!

Camille is getting so big! Thanks for keeping us all posted.

I find for stains Murphy’s Oil Soap (regular stuff in bottle) or Murphy’s Laundry Aid (in a white bottle) works great. You wet the stain, pour some on and rub. If it a really set in stain you may have to do it a couple times, but that’s all I use. Have tried many others but that seems to do the trick. I always have a bottle on hand. My Mom swore by the stuff and I do too.

    Good luck!

P.S. How is Camille doing with her veggies? Did you try my trick of mixing the peas & carrots in the mac & cheese? Was just wondering. lol

    Have a great weekend!

  11. Hi Tracy!
While she’s still little the best stain remover is to just take her shirt off. Of course this only works at home or Grandma’s house. When that’s not possible, I found Grandma’s Famous Spot Remover at Catan’s. It’s by the check out. Took out blood from something that was set in for a year. In my opinion it works very well on everything I’ve tried it on. Good Luck!

  12. I never understood why my mom went through so many bottles of Shout! Now I have 2 boys, 3 years old and 7 months and now I get it. I always treat the stains that night and leave them set in the laundry room until laundry day!
